A Packed Side of Homegrown Pork Tenderloin, Strawberries and Bread, Pampers and Cheese

Tonight, the U.S. Post Office and other major federal government institutions will join the world’s largest animal slaughter houses for the annual “Made in the USA” produce, meat, and seafood expo in Springfield, Illinois. The purpose of the event is to showcase products from U.S. manufacturers that reflect a nationwide drive to embrace U.S. manufacturing in its widest variety and scale.

Leah McGann, founder of Good Food Expressions, will stand beside celebrities and the food czars from numerous large food processors like Tyson, Hormel, and Hormel Foods at the fair, including Harry and David Foods, USA Bakery, and Colby’s Ice Cream. Several members of Congress will be there too, led by Congressman Steve Scalise.

Supporters of Good Food Expressions, a nearly 40-year-old cooperative business in suburban St. Louis, Missouri, are participating in the festivities to celebrate the not-for-profit’s commitment to “greening” and renewing the faces of America’s agriculture. Because this organization is dedicated to producing small potatoes every day—purveyors of organic and fair trade potatoes from the seed to plate—Good Food Expressions will be the product of hand-selected small producers along the American Potato Capital of Illinois.

The organization’s involvement in both the U.S. Post Office and the expo highlights its priorities of increasing small producers’ access to affordable, quality, and sustainable products, and offering its customers and consumers fair-trade and organic standards. The U.S. Post Office—which is the nation’s largest provider of private carrier, mail services, and employs an estimated nine million workers and still exists because of the need to celebrate our national connections, most notably the role that the post office has played in connecting millions of families with public means of communication—is committed to both supporting small, organic farms and those serving meat-eaters with a range of products that don’t come from animals fed on factory farms and condemned for life to a life of fearful confinement.

Speaking to these priorities, a Good Food Expressions representative told FoxNews.com: “We’re going to be speaking to both sides of the aisle about small-scale, plant-based meat and other traditional grains. It’s our hope to use this meeting as a platform to help remove the inequities from our food system and to demonstrate plant-based meat does not have to be the same as factory-farmed meat, and actually can be healthier, as farmers and ranchers can grow innovative uses for plant-based protein.”

According to the Good Food Expressions official, more than ninety plant-based meats will be on display at the Springfield expo: kangaroo, buffalo, rabbit, and goat burgers; spaghetti and meatballs, and BBQ salmon, for example. Also on display will be plant-based hand pies, pizza dough, and examples of plant-based chocolates, including a vegan truffle cheese and an organic rabbit’s chocolate.

Good Food Expressions is also big on rock-solid partnerships and expertise—both of which it’s demonstrating at the US Department of Agriculture’s Homegrown Food Symposium being held at the University of Illinois next month. Good Food Expressions is making the product of three families who have radically reinvented the traditional beef cut using plant-based protein. They’re promoting their part of the symposium through its social media posts, including a video that highlights three of the participating family-run operations.
